HOUSTON, TX [August 16, 2021] –The Rose is excited to welcome Wanda Woody-Roberts, a human resources professional with over thirty years of service at DePelchin Children’s Center, to the board of directors. Woody-Roberts was a member of DePelchin’s senior leadership team, working closely with staff and Board. Her passion for helping and serving others was reflected in her work at DePelchin, being committed to excellence and passionate about developing a work culture that promoted continuous growth, while empowering and motivating employees to perform their best in a collaborative and supportive work environment. She was dedicated and mission-focused to the service of making a difference in the lives of children and families.
Like so many women, Woody-Roberts has personal experience with breast cancer. “We lost my sister-in-law to breast cancer in 2011. Also, during my time at DePelchin, there were several employees we supported during their battle and happily, most are survivors!” Woody-Roberts explains.
Through their non-profit relationship, Woody-Roberts was introduced to The Rose by Pamela Lovett, Board Chair for The Rose. Woody-Roberts began her human resources career with a Houston-based high-end specialty fashion retail store before joining DePelchin in 1990 as Director of Human Resources. She subsequently was promoted to Vice President, Human Resources, and later SVP, Human Resources and Compliance Officer. Woody-Roberts was responsible for the oversight of over 300 employees in four locations: Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and Lubbock. This oversight included working collaboratively with leadership, HR team and internal partners on human capital strategies related to talent management, total rewards, learning and development, HR compliance and workplace safety.
“After thirty years at DePelchin Children’s Center, I have experienced and understand the opportunities and challenges of providing services to our communities. I look forward to applying my experience to help the patients of The Rose.”
“We are grateful that Wanda will leverage her expertise in human resources and breast health advocacy to the board. Wanda worked hard at DePelchin to raise awareness about breast cancer screening and prevention, and we are thrilled that she will bring her passion and talent to the board,” says The Rose’s CEO and co-founder Dorothy Gibbons.
Woody-Roberts announced her retirement from DePelchin in April, and she and her husband Mark are looking forward to this new chapter in their lives.
Woody-Roberts earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resources Management from Our Lady of the Lake University, San Antonio, TX, followed by an MBA. A member of the National Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), a former member of HR Houston, and the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA), Woody-Roberts also serves on the human resources committee at Bear Creek United Methodist Church.
