Breast Biopsy in Houston, Texas

Breast biopsy services at two Houston area breast centers

The Rose provides breast biopsy services at two Houston-area breast centers, with diagnostic care and support through the next steps.

What Is a Breast Biopsy?

A breast biopsy removes a small sample of tissue so it can be examined to determine whether an area is benign or malignant.

A biopsy may be recommended when breast imaging identifies an area that needs additional evaluation. Your healthcare provider and breast imaging team can determine which biopsy procedure is appropriate based on your imaging findings.

Needing a biopsy does not necessarily mean you have breast cancer. The procedure is used to provide more information and help determine the appropriate next steps.

Breast Biopsy Procedures Offered

The Rose performs several types of breast biopsy procedures.

Ultrasound-Guided Breast Biopsy

An ultrasound-guided breast biopsy uses breast ultrasound to help the physician locate the area being evaluated and guide the biopsy procedure.

Core Needle Biopsy

A core needle biopsy removes small samples of breast tissue for examination. Your physician determines whether this procedure is appropriate based on your imaging findings.

Fine Needle Aspiration

Fine needle aspiration, or FNA, uses a thin needle and syringe to obtain cells or fluid from an area in the breast. The procedure may be guided by ultrasound when appropriate.

Stereotactic Breast Biopsy

A stereotactic breast biopsy uses mammographic imaging to help precisely locate an area that requires tissue sampling.

Stereotactic breast biopsy is available only at The Rose Southeast.

Where Are Breast Biopsies Performed?
