HOUSTON – Once again The Rose Golf Classic at Shadow Hawk raised more than $170,000 for The Rose’s mobile mammography program. Led by board members Jeanne Gillen and Eileen Campbell along with friend and supporter Ysa McKinney, the effort was praised by golfers and The Rose staff as a highlight of a month of raising awareness and funds for the nonprofit, now in 35 counties.
This year’s tournament was a sellout with many of the allotted 20 teams filled by Joe Gillen of Pinnacle Financial Strategies and Stan Paur, retired CEO of Chief Executive Officer of PULSE EFT.
Paul Marchand of Shadow Hawk Golf Club in Richmond not only offered a clinic on the driving range as participants dined on light fare under beautiful Texas skies but served as the emcee when winners were announced on the Club’s patio as all enjoyed BBQ and drinks.
Winners included 1st Gross: Ed Jones, Warren Coles, Mike Larson, Bo McBee; 2nd Gross: Tory Taylor, Doug Mena, Matt Walker, Pat Zachry, Allison Hooker; 1st Net: Cherry Kirkwood, Ysa McKinney, Tim Ngo, Carl Warwick; 2nd Net: Chris Walker, Stephen Reed, Alan Patterson, Robert Hatter, Bobby Tolan; Closest to hole: Chuck Vernon, Ed Jones, Dave Martin; Longest Drive: Jeanne Gillen, Joey Spates; Putting Contest: 1st Tim Ngo; 2nd Chris Gillen; 3rd Todd Linden and Steve Spates.
“The beauty of the day was only surpassed by the warm and generous spirit of each sponsor, golfer, Shadow Hawk staff member and volunteer,” noted Dorothy Gibbons, CEO and Co-Founder of The Rose, as she addressed the returning crowd. Gibbons spent the day traveling the green to capture a team photo and thanking each golfer who participated.
“Last year the monies we raised here — along with an incredible gift from Woodforest Charitable Foundation — allowed us to purchase the van you see before you,” she said, gesturing to the fully-equipped state-of-the-art mobile unit that will be dedicated to Montgomery and surrounding counties. “Because of you, we will serve 12,000 women in our mobile program in the coming year.”
She then challenged the group to immediately sign on to support next year’s tournament. Honorary Chair Doug Dawson took up the challenge and made one of the first donations, securing a team for the third annual event in 2015.
2014 sponsors include Pinnacle Financial Strategies, Marathon Oil, Joe & Jeanne Gillen, Doug Perley and Eileen Campbell, TDECO, Woodforest National Bank, TRC Capital and Texas Citizens Bank with underwriters Decode Digital Marketing, The Lee Group Marketing, Buffalo Flange and Garcia Hamilton & Associates.
