American Horse Racing Pioneer Patti Cooksey to Join The Rose at Annual Kentucky Derby Themed Pinknic

Houston, TX, April 2, 2015 – The Rose will host a Kentucky Derby themed Pinknic on Sunday, April 26, from 1 to 4 pm at the Carothers Coastal Gardens located at 502 Pine Gully Rd. in Seabrook, TX. Patti Cooksey, the first woman to ride in the Preakness, will be the featured guest, sharing about her own battle with breast cancer and history as a horse racing jockey and pioneer.

Attendees to the Pinknic will have the opportunity to meet and take photos with Cooksey while celebrating the tenacity and dedication of famed jockeys and women everywhere. Throughout the afternoon, live music, a silent auction, a bake sale, and local fashions will also be featured. In its inaugural year, the community contributed more than $12,000 at the first Pinknic.

“Just like the jockeys and their thoroughbreds running for the roses at Churchill Downs, we have set our sights on making this year’s Pinknic an even bigger success,” said Dorothy Gibbons, CEO and Co-Founder of The Rose. “We are counting on women from all walks of life to help support our Pinknic benefitting The Rose. There are many different ways you can help The Rose continue its life-saving work, and this is just another way to relax and mingle for a cause.”

Individual tickets are available for $40 in advance online at www.therose.org and $45 at the door.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available for the Pinknic. Donations will directly support the important healthcare opportunities that The Rose provides all women, regardless of their ability to pay.
