Breast cancer
doesn't see age.

Meet Yumaria

Yumaria was only 23 when her doctor found a lump in her breast during a postpartum checkup. Yumaria and many others were sure it was just a clogged milk duct since she had just given birth, but Dr. Dixie Melillo knew the dangers of breast cancer in young women as well as in older women and had a biopsy done.

Shortly after, it was confirmed that the lump in her breast was indeed breast cancer. She underwent treatment and is perfectly healthy and has even gone on to have another healthy beautiful baby girl recently.

Young Women & Breast Cancer

  • 1/3 of our diagnosed patients are under the age of 50.
  • 7% of all our patients are under the age of 40, but represent 10% of our diagnosed.
  • An estimated 30% or more of all breast cancer in young women is diagnosed in the few years after a woman has had a baby.

Watch The Story

"Young women can get breast cancer. And since Yumaria, we've seen young lady, after young lady coming to The Rose and being diagnosed."
