San Burnett Assumes Board Position Role at The Rose

HOUSTON, TX [June 10, 2021] – Purposeful, driven, compassionate, and intentional, San Burnett is accustomed to elevating her voice to support women and minorities. A woman who has consistently broken gender and race boundaries both in governmental agencies and as Senior Advisor in Process Safety and Risk at BHP Petroleum, Burnett will bring her powerful voice for equity and access for women and minorities to the board of The Rose.

Burnett is no stranger to breast cancer. “Our family has experienced a lot of loss,” Burnett explains. “In addition to my grandmother and several cousins, I lost a 30-year-old cousin who was like a sister to me. In our family, breast cancer is not related to age.” An active volunteer in several community and human services-based organizations, Burnett was introduced to The Rose by board member Ronnie Hagerty during a Blueprint Project for United Way. She felt an immediate connection to the work being done by The Rose.

“We are thrilled San will be joining the board of The Rose,” says CEO and co-founder Dorothy Gibbons. “San is a passionate advocate for all women, and tackles hurdles others might find daunting with grace and ease. We look forward to her help and insight as The Rose continues to grow.”

Burnett’s leadership at BHP Petroleum includes the design and implementation of safety and risk management programs to prevent catastrophic events. For nearly 30 years, Burnett has led global engineering teams through risk studies and evaluation of innovative offshore technologies. A gifted communicator and thoughtful leader, Burnett is an alumnus of Southern University and A&M College and the University of Alabama.  In addition to being a devoted mother and grandmother, Burnett has also served on several industry boards and committees including the Texas A&M University – Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Center, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers – Global Congress on Process Safety and the Center for Chemical Process Safety.
