Hundreds of Houston Community Members Will Support Annual Shrimp Boil to Raise Funds for Breast Cancer Healthcare

HOUSTON, TX, MAY 30, 2017— On Saturday, July 8, 2017, hundreds of Houston community members will attend the 28th Annual Shrimp Boil for The Rose at the Pasadena Convention Center, located at 7902 Fairmont Pkwy, Pasadena, TX 77507, where thousands of pounds of shrimp will be served to raise funds for breast cancer healthcare. The annual event is the oldest and largest fundraiser for The Rose, the leading nonprofit healthcare organization in Southeast Texas, which has served nearly 500,000 people over the last 30 years.

The Shrimp Boil depends on attendees and volunteers who care about saving lives affected by breast cancer and honoring those who have been lost to the preventable disease. It’s simultaneously a celebration of the lives of survivors and those who are still in the fight.

“It has been 28 years since we first started hosting this fundraiser and I can’t help but think of all the people who have made it possible for us to continue the necessary work of screening and diagnostic services,” said CEO and Co-Founder Dorothy Gibbons. “Every year we depend on nearly 200 volunteers who share a common goal of ensuring all woman have access to breast cancer healthcare.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy The Rose’s unique tradition complete with plates packed with shrimp and “all the fixin’s,” a kids zone, live and silent auctions, desserts, musical entertainment provided by The Slags and more. For the second year in a row, 104.1 KRBE’s Freddy Cruz will emcee the event.

The Rose also relies on the following sponsors and underwriters: MD Anderson, Painting with a Twist (La Marque & Pasadena), ACU of Texas, Elizabeth Buchanan, Total Wine & More, Apache Oil Company, Johnny and Catherine Sessums, Davis Chevrolet, Keith Parr, JES Tech, Barbara Buxton and IBEW Local #66.

Tickets are available in advance for $25 per adult at www.therose.org. Tickets will be available at the door for $30 per adult and $10 per child. Reserved tables for eight people start at $300 and sponsorship opportunities are still available. Donations will directly support breast healthcare resources that The Rose provides for all women, regardless of their ability to pay.
