Taking time. Stealing a moment. Spending an hour.
With much of the verbiage focused on the economics of it, talking about “time” as an investment in personal health seems only natural to the two women serving as event co-chairs for “A Time to Care Luncheon” presented by Comerica Bank and benefitting The Rose, a nonprofit breast health organization serving Houston and southeast Texas.
Co-chairs Donna Mittendorf and Pam Lovett, are both bank executives who have committed much of the last several months to planning the 11:00 a.m. luncheon, Monday, April 15, at The Junior League of Houston (1811 Briar Oaks Lane).
The event is a first-time approach inside the Loop at awareness-building about the 27-year-old nonprofit providing screenings and mammograms to the insured and uninsured.
“While many in the Houston community are familiar with the facility in southeast Houston, The Rose Galleria is not quite as well-known nor are the two mobile units which help provide breast health for 24 counties,” said Mittendorf, Senior Vice President at Comerica Bank, who also serves on The Rose’s Board.
“We anticipate that the luncheon will be both an introduction to the incredible outreach of The Rose – nearly 33,000 women were screened last year – and a time to celebrate taking a little time for ourselves.”
To encourage the conversation, local media personalities Deborah Duncan, Andrea Watkins and Melanie Lawson along with moderator Ernie Manouse have been enlisted to provide a panel discussion on the impact their own personal health crises had on their perspective of time.
The host committee is currently seeking sponsors for tables and items for a silent auction.
“We need the support and commitment of the community,” noted Lovett, Comerica’s Director of Business Development and Community Affairs. “While it’s true that for every three insured women who come to The Rose, we can cover the cost of an uninsured woman, we still depend on the contributions of area businesses and funders to make sure that we never have to turn a woman away.”
Members of the luncheon host committee include Susan Asimakis, Carol Burke, Eileen Campbell, Loretta Cross, Rachel Giesber Clingman, Suzan Deison, Beverly Denver, Barbara Duganier, Irene Helsinger, Leisa Holland-Nelson, Patricia Hunt Holmes, Rochelle Jacobson, Myrleen Knott, Lynne Liberato, Karen Love, Lynn Mathre, Susan McEldoon, Dorothy Nicholson, Chris Noble, Sheri L. Parrack, Sue Payne, and Beth Wolff.
