HOUSTON – Last year’s first-ever The Rose Golf Classic at Shadow Hawk raised more than $170,000 for The Rose’s mobile mammography program. Due to the efforts of chairs Jeanne Gillen, a board member of The Rose and Ysa McKinney, both members of Shadow Hawk, a fourth mobile unit is now on the road in Montgomery County offering The Rose’s quality breast health services to the insured and uninsured.
The second The Rose Golf Classic is scheduled for October 27 and will once again be hosted at the exclusive Shadow Hawk Golf Club in Richmond, TX and will be limited to 20 teams. Teams of four (half teams are also available) are forming now. To participate contact Andrea Ghotekar at 281.464.5165, [email protected] or register online atwww.TheRose.org.
Honorary Chair Doug Dawson and host committee — Doug Perley and Eileen Campbell, Joe and Jeanne Gillen, Michelle Meissner, and Andrew and Isabell McKinney – have not only secured the premiere setting but have also arranged for each of the exclusive 20 foursomes to play alongside a legendary sports figure on each team.
2014 sponsors include Pinnacle Financial Strategies, Marathon Oil, Joe & Jeanne Gillen, Doug Perley and Eileen Campbell, TDECO, Woodforest National Bank, TRC Capital and Texas Citizens Bank with underwriters Decode Digital Marketing, The Lee Group Marketing, Buffalo Flange and Garcia Hamilton & Associates.
The Rose broke the barrier of cost when it was founded in 1986. Now, with the help of like-minded funders, they are battling the second deterrent keeping almost 30% of eligible Texas women from life-saving mammograms – convenience.
The Rose added its first mobile unit nearly 10 years ago. Soon a second was on the road. Last year Harris County Healthcare Alliance made possible a third van and in October 2014 thanks to a gift from Woodforest Charitable Foundation along with proceeds from The Rose Golf Classic, a fourth mobile mammography unit has joined the fleet. As a result, nearly 12,000 women will be served through The Rose Mobile Mammography in the upcoming year.
“When the new mobile unit arrived, I thought back to last year and the gorgeous day we had at Shadow Hawk and each person who had made some contribution to making the expansion of our mobile fleet possible,” said Dorothy Gibbons, CEO and Co-Founder of The Rose. “On behalf of our women and the women we will serve in 35 counties, I am so very grateful.”
The October 27th event will begin with lunch at 11 a.m. followed by a mini clinic with Paul Marchand, the club’s General Manager and Head Golf Professional. A Shotgun Start at 12:30 p.m. features a shamble format with fore caddies provided. The dinner and awards presentation is set for 5:00 p.m.
