Join us as we hear another story and we answer those tough questions that you may have.[00:01:00]

Mark: My name is Mark Meer. I work for the Rose. I am the Cook Liaison. I’ve been cooking shrimp for the Rose for 22 years.

Dorothy: Mark what has remained the same from year one, two. You’re 22 that you’ve been with us.

Mark: I think, uh, a lot, most everything has been consistent. We haven’t changed much in the 22 years we’ve developed.

A way of cooking the shrimp and chilling it in a matter of minutes and, uh, it’s the way we’ve been doing it since the beginning and since I’ve been involved.

Dorothy: What do you enjoy most when you see people at the Shrimp Boil?

Mark: The feedback I get from all the people. The shrimp, some people like the shrimp, some people love the coleslaw, everybody loves something here and everybody comes back.

My cooking team has been the same [00:02:00] people for 22 years.

Dorothy: Now you have to tell us, what is the secret ingredient behind a 22 year run of cooking shrimp that is the best you’ll ever find?

Mark: I don’t have any secrets. I don’t say no, that’s my problem. They keep asking me back and I say yes every time.

Dorothy: What is your hope for the future?

Mark: Every year we get better. Problem is, every year we get older. So we’re looking for a youth to come work with us to learn how to do what we do.

Dorothy: And why do you think it’s important to help the Rose?

Mark: Me and the Rose have this relationship because I have lost people to breast cancer and they have saved people.

And that’s why I work with The Rose, is to help save more people every year.

Dorothy: So that wraps it up for today. And don’t forget, we’re doing a episode every single day. You’re going to get your daily dose of Let’s Talk About Your [00:03:00] Breasts during the month of October.

Post-Credits: October is the month of pink, and for The Rose, A breast center of excellence. That means we’ll be airing podcasts every day in October to celebrate breast cancer awareness month.
