Houston, TX [July 5, 2018] – Last month, the Cracker Barrel Sista Strut 3K Breast Cancer Walk by iHEARTMedia was announced to community leaders from local businesses, churches, professional groups and Houston City officials during a luncheon held at the iHeartMedia offices. Sista Strut raises awareness about the higher death rate African American women face from breast cancer. A portion of the proceeds will benefit The Rose, an organization that reduces deaths from breast cancer by providing access to screenings and diagnostics to any woman regardless of her ability to pay. The inaugural event will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Memorial Park, 6501 Memorial Dr.
African American women are more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer before age 40 than any other demographic. The goal of Sista Strut is to heighten awareness about the issues of breast cancer, as well as provide information on community resources. Sista Strut recognizes the strength of survivors, their family and friends, in addition to heightening awareness, promoting early detection and supporting the search for a cure.
Houston will be one of fourteen markets to host a Sista Strut event across the US. The rally will begin at 7 a.m. with entertainment, speakers, giveaways and more. The walk will begin at 9 a.m.
Sista Strut is open to all ages. If registered by Sunday, July 15, tickets are $15 for individuals or $20 per team member. All participants will receive a Sista Strut t-shirt, while team members will receive a team photo and swag backpack. To register go to Sunny99.com, 937thebeathouston.com or 1045kissfmhouston.com and use the keyword SISTA.
