Houston, Texas [March 1, 2019] – Native Houstonian Alice Anne Dodge, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, believes that organizations like The Rose are critical in a city that millions of diverse groups call home. Committed to ensuring that families have the access to the healthcare they need, she has recently joined the board of the organization that has entered its fourth decade of providing quality breast healthcare to Southeast Texas.
“I have enjoyed watching my city grow to be the culturally diverse city and leader of medicine that it is. Yet, I still see many gaps where people and the resources they need are not able to connect,” said Dodge, a Veterinarian at the Village Vet and Pet Resort.
Since 1986, The Rose has provided breast health services to all women, regardless of their ability to pay and has a long history of advocating for the uninsured. Dodge cites lack of knowledge, transportation and opportunity as a few of the obstacles creating the disconnect for the underserved.
“I also know firsthand the physical, emotional, and mental strain breast cancer can have on a family and its individuals. Which is why an organization like The Rose speaks to my heart and is so critical to continuing the fight against breast cancer for all women,” she said.
CEO and Co-Founder of The Rose, Dorothy Gibson, points to Dodge’s empathy and business acumen as welcomed attributes of a board member.
“The Rose is undergoing a time of expansion with site upgrades at our Southeast location and the ever-growing outreach of our mobile fleet,” noted Gibbons. “We depend on a board that clearly sees both the need and the means by which we can creatively meet the demand. Dr. Dodge’s understanding of the business community, her compassion for her neighbors and the insights she’s gained from caring for beloved pets will be definite assets.”
After graduating from St. John’s School in Houston, Dodge received her first degree in Business Administration/Finance from the University of Texas at Austin. She then earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M University. She has practiced in several accredited private small animal hospitals, and currently sits on the Harris County Veterinary Medical Foundation board.
